The Fine Gael Government has announced LUAS Cross City line is to be extended to Finglas.
TD for the area Noel Rock, who had headed up the FingLUAS campaign and worked hard to ensure it was included in the Capital Plan, believes it is a watershed moment for the whole community.
Deputy Rock said: “I’m delighted with today’s announcement that the Government will be bringing the LUAS to Finglas. This is big news for the area.
“Some had said that this wouldn’t happen for at least 25 years. We now have a commitment to get it started in 9 years at the latest – and I have received a commitment that it will be the first of the LUAS extensions to commence.
“This work will be undertaken in conjunction with Metro North, involving land procurement, route selection to be done in the near future. When the major construction of Metro North is concluding, Finglas LUAS construction will commence.
“I will be keeping the pressure up through my FingLUAS campaign to speed up construction in Phase 3. It is my goal to see the LUAS operational in Finglas as soon as possible.
“In the interim, I aim to get the feeder bus from Finglas – the 40L – up and running and that this route is refined or added to it as needed. We must also ensure that proper park and ride facilities are available at Broombridge.
“I will make sure that lighting and paths allow people to access the station by foot more easily, so it can be enjoyed by everyone. I want to see the LUAS serving Finglas and our community.
Deputy Rock concluded: “I’d like to thank everybody who has supported the campaign to date – the people who have attended our meetings across Finglas, the people who have signed my petition and the people who have worked hard to bring us to this point.
“Between Metro North and this LUAS extension, Dublin North West are the beneficiaries of the biggest transport investment in the history of the state. The area will go from having one mode of public transport to three modes, ensuring great transport links for the entire community,” the Fine Gael TD said.
