Ballymun Councillor Noel Rock today welcomed the news that the Vantastic bus service will now be operating between Ballymun and Omni Park Shopping Centre, giving older residents and those with disabilities the means to get to and from the shops.

Speaking on the matter, Councillor Rock said: “I called for this in November, and the introduction of this service is good news for people who simply need a bit of help doing their weekly shop.

Councillor Rock added: “The introduction of this service is long overdue and I am glad that thanks to the residents who pursued this, the Government-funded Vantastic service is now allowing people access to local shopping services. This will allow people over 65 and those with disabilities to go about their weekly shop and get their bit of shopping without too much hassle, and that’s a good thing”.

Councillor Rock added: “This isn’t the end of the story though. A bus is a good temporary solution, but it can’t be a permanent one. Ballymun residents deserve to have a shopping complex of their own and I will still be working constantly to make sure this happens. I will miss no opportunity to highlight what Ballymun needs and deserves – and a new shopping centre is absolutely one of those things”.

“We can’t afford to rest on our laurels. Yes, I am glad I pushed for this and glad that a result has been delivered for the area. But now we must push for the provision of further amenities in the area”, Councillor Rock concluded.
