Anti-ticket touting legislation is set to advance in the Dáil on Tuesday, which will see it move closer to finally becoming law, a Fine Gael TD has said.

Deputy Noel Rock, who drafted the legislation said: “Once again people are fed up at seeing tickets to a sporting event being touted for ludicrous prices.

“The Six Nations game against England has seen tickets selling for €2,700 online. This is unacceptable.

“This legislation, which was introduced over two years ago, has been stuck in the system for a long time now, and it’s quite clear that it is both necessary and overdue.

“Accordingly, full credit must go to Minister Heather Humphreys who has championed this and pushed it forward. The 91% of the Irish public, including myself, who are in favour of this legislation, are grateful for her common sense approach.

“There has been a lot of spin and distortion by well-paid lobbyists in relation to this, but the reality is that this legislation has been enacted elsewhere, has been effective elsewhere, the public overwhelmingly support it, and we have committed to it as part of hosting games in Euro 2020.

“It’s time to push on, enact this law and make sure the playing field is leveled for real fans of sport and music alike,” the Dublin North West TD said.
