Fine Gael Candidate for Drumcondra, Glasnevin and Ballymun, Noel Rock, today welcomed the provision of free healthcare for those aged five years and under in the Budget, saying “it’s an important step towards universal healthcare for all. 7,302 children across Drumcondra, Glasnevin, Whitehall, Beaumont and Ballymun will now be eligible for free GP care. The work that can be undertaken in these early years in terms of preventative care for all manner of things is remarkable, and the peace of mind for parents across the area will be immense”.
Mr. Rock, a local Peace Commissioner in the area, continued: “I have met so many parents since the Budget was released who have expressed their profound gratitude that this measure has come about, as they have been feeling financial strain from all directions and always feared a child getting sick. This has come as a great relief to the squeezed middle-class, and I know that it will make a difference to a great many people both now and in the future”.
Mr. Rock added: “Many families have had a tough few years and I hope that – for some – this measure provides both peace of mind and a little bit of financial breathing space so that parents aren’t always dreading what’s around the corner. This Government is committed to putting families and children first, and I think that in years to come, this measure will be seen as visionary”.
